Description

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup Heavy cream (for caramel)
  • 1/4 cup Granulated sugar (for caramel)
  • 2 tablespoons Water (for caramel)

Instructions

  1. Combine milk, cocoa powder, 2 tablespoons sugar, and salt in a small saucepan.
  2. Heat over medium heat, whisking constantly until the mixture is hot and the sugar dissolves. Do not boil.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. For the caramel: Combine 1/4 cup sugar and water in a separate small, heavy-bottomed saucepan.
  5. Heat over medium heat without stirring until the sugar dissolves and turns a deep amber color. Swirl the pan gently if needed to ensure even cooking.
  6. Remove caramel from heat and carefully whisk in the heavy cream. The mixture will bubble vigorously. Stir until smooth.
  7. Pour the hot cocoa into mugs. Drizzle the prepared caramel sauce over the top of each serving.
