Sweet rolls flavored with carrot cake spices and topped with cream cheese frosting.

- 1 package active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 cup shredded carrots
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- For Frosting: 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Activate the yeast in the warm milk and a pinch of sugar for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, combine the yeast mixture, remaining sugar, egg, and melted butter.
- Mix in the flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled.
- Punch down the dough. Roll it out into a 12×18 inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
- Mix the shredded carrots with the brown sugar. Spread the softened butter over the dough. Sprinkle the brown sugar and carrot mixture evenly over the buttered surface.
- Roll the dough tightly starting from the long edge. Cut the roll into 12 equal pieces.
- Place the rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- While the rolls bake, prepare the frosting: Beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, beating until creamy.
- Spread the frosting over the warm rolls before serving.
Notes
- For a stronger spice flavor, add 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger to the dough mixture.
- If your dough is too sticky, add flour one tablespoon at a time during kneading.
- Make sure your milk is warm, not hot, or it will kill the yeast.
