Description

A hearty and flavorful casserole combining ground beef, rice, and classic French onion soup elements.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed French onion soup
  • 1 cup uncooked white rice
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess fat.
  3. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  4. Stir in the condensed French onion soup, uncooked rice, and beef broth. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat, cover, and cook for 15 minutes, or until the rice is almost tender.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  7. Dot the top with butter and sprinkle evenly with shredded Swiss cheese.
  8. Bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the casserole is heated through.
  9. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can add a splash of Worcestershire sauce to the beef mixture.
  • If you prefer a crispier topping, you can broil the casserole for the last 1-2 minutes, watching carefully to prevent burning.
