Description
A hearty and flavorful casserole combining ground beef, rice, and classic French onion soup elements.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed French onion soup
- 1 cup uncooked white rice
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- 1/4 cup butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- Stir in the condensed French onion soup, uncooked rice, and beef broth. Season with salt and pepper.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat, cover, and cook for 15 minutes, or until the rice is almost tender.
- Transfer the mixture to a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Dot the top with butter and sprinkle evenly with shredded Swiss cheese.
- Bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the casserole is heated through.
- Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can add a splash of Worcestershire sauce to the beef mixture.
- If you prefer a crispier topping, you can broil the casserole for the last 1-2 minutes, watching carefully to prevent burning.
