Description
A recipe for making crispy chicken coated in a sweet and savory sesame sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (for sauce thickening)
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted
- 2 green onions, sliced, for garnish
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine flour, 1/4 cup cornstarch, salt, and pepper. Dredge the chicken pieces in the flour mixture, shaking off excess.
- Dip the floured chicken into the beaten eggs, then dredge again in the flour mixture to coat thoroughly.
- Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the chicken in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-6 minutes per batch. Remove chicken and drain on a wire rack or paper towels.
- While the chicken fries, prepare the sauce. In a small saucepan, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, brown sugar, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic.
- Bring the sauce mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
- In a small bowl, mix 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 1/4 cup water to create a slurry. Pour the slurry into the simmering sauce, whisking constantly until the sauce thickens.
- Remove the sauce from the heat.
- Place the cooked chicken in a large bowl. Pour the sesame sauce over the chicken and toss gently until all pieces are coated.
- Stir in the toasted sesame seeds.
- Serve immediately, garnished with sliced green onions.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, you can double-fry the chicken: fry once until lightly golden, drain, then fry again at a higher temperature until deep golden brown.
- Adjust honey or brown sugar amounts if you prefer a sweeter or less sweet sauce.
