A simple recipe for rich, slow-cooked hot chocolate perfect for cold days.
Ingredients

- 6 cups milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Combine milk, heavy cream, chocolate chips, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt in a slow cooker.
- Whisk the mixture until the chocolate chips and cocoa powder are mostly dissolved.
- Cook on low for 2 to 3 hours, stirring every 30 minutes, until hot and smooth. Do not boil.
- Stir in the vanilla extract just before serving.
- Serve warm with your choice of toppings.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon or a pinch of cayenne pepper with the dry ingredients.
- If you prefer a thicker hot chocolate, you can whisk in 1 tablespoon of cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons of cold water during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
