Description

A festive and easy-to-make cake perfect for patriotic celebrations, featuring a colorful, marbled batter and a simple glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) package white cake mix
  • 1 ¼ cups water
  • ⅓ cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large egg whites
  • Red food coloring
  • Blue food coloring
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine cake mix, water, oil, and egg whites. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed for 30 seconds, then on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  3. Divide the batter evenly into three separate bowls.
  4. Add red food coloring to one bowl and mix until the desired color is achieved.
  5. Add blue food coloring to another bowl and mix until the desired color is achieved.
  6. Leave the third bowl of batter plain.
  7. Spoon alternating dollops of red, white, and blue batter into the prepared baking pan.
  8. Gently swirl the colors together with a knife or skewer to create a marbled effect, being careful not to overmix.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Let the cake cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  11. While the cake cools, prepare the glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  12. Pour the glaze over the cooled cake, spreading it evenly.
  13. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

  • For a more vibrant color, use gel food coloring.
  • Do not overmix the batter when swirling the colors to maintain distinct marbling.
  • Store leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
