- 1 large egg
- 2 pounds tart apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced

- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk warm water, vegetable oil, and egg. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Cover the dough with a warm, damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- While the dough rests, prepare the filling. In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, raisins (if using), and walnuts (if using). Mix well.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- On a clean, floured surface or a large pastry cloth, roll out the dough into a very thin rectangle, about 20×30 inches. The dough should be thin enough to see through.
- Brush the melted butter evenly over the dough. Sprinkle breadcrumbs over the butter.
- Arrange the apple filling evenly over the dough, leaving a 2-inch border on all sides.
- Carefully roll up the strudel tightly, starting from the long side. Pinch the ends to seal.
- Carefully transfer the strudel to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until golden brown and the filling is tender.
- Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
