- 0.5 teaspoon salt
- 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the softened butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, vanilla extract, and buttermilk.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- You can substitute sour cream or plain yogurt for the buttermilk.
- Add 1/2 cup of chocolate chips or nuts for variation.
