Ingredients

  • 6 cups stale bread cubes
  • 2 large ripe pears, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Place the bread cubes and diced pears evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, cardamom, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the milk mixture evenly over the bread and pears. Press the bread down gently to absorb the liquid.
  5. Let the mixture stand for 15 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the custard.
  6. Drizzle the melted butter over the top of the pudding.
  7. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the pudding cool for 10 minutes before serving.
