Description
A recipe for making small, sweet donuts coated in powdered sugar.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 1 cup powdered sugar for coating
Instructions
- Whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg in a large bowl.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, milk, and melted butter.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined; do not overmix.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Use a small donut cutter or two spoons to carefully drop small amounts of dough into the hot oil.
- Fry for about 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
- Remove donuts with a slotted spoon and place them on a wire rack lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- While the donuts are still warm, roll them generously in powdered sugar.
Notes
- If you do not have a donut cutter, you can drop spoonfuls of dough directly into the oil for a more rustic shape.
- Maintain the oil temperature consistently for even cooking.
