Description

Ingredients

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 cup powdered sugar for coating

Instructions

  1. Whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg in a large bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, milk, and melted butter.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined; do not overmix.
  4. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Use a small donut cutter or two spoons to carefully drop small amounts of dough into the hot oil.
  6. Fry for about 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  7. Remove donuts with a slotted spoon and place them on a wire rack lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  8. While the donuts are still warm, roll them generously in powdered sugar.
