Description

Soft dinner rolls glazed with a sweet and spicy honey garlic sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm milk (105-115F)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for glaze)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 teaspoon of sugar in a large bowl. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in the remaining sugar, egg, and 1/4 cup melted butter into the yeast mixture.
  3. Add flour and salt. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 6-8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough. Divide it into 12 equal pieces and shape each into a ball.
  7. Place the dough balls in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan, leaving a small space between them.
  8. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat your oven to 375F (190C).
  10. Bake the rolls for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
  11. While the rolls bake, prepare the glaze: Whisk together 1/4 cup honey, 2 tablespoons melted butter, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes in a small bowl.
  12. Immediately brush the hot glaze evenly over the warm rolls as soon as they come out of the oven.
  13. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For a milder heat, reduce the red pepper flakes to 1/2 teaspoon.
  • You can use instant yeast by mixing it directly with the dry ingredients, omitting the initial proofing step.
  • If the dough is too sticky, add flour one tablespoon at a time during kneading.
