Description
A straightforward method for making sweet and savory candied bacon.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound thick-cut bacon
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon black pepper, freshly ground
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius).
- Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire cooling rack on top of the foil.
- Arrange the bacon strips in a single layer on the wire rack.
- In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, black pepper, and cayenne pepper, if using.
- Sprinkle the sugar mixture evenly over both sides of the bacon strips. Press the sugar lightly onto the bacon.
- Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
- Flip the bacon strips carefully using tongs.
- Bake for another 5 to 10 minutes, or until the bacon is caramelized and crisp.
- Remove the bacon from the oven and immediately transfer the strips to a sheet of parchment paper to cool completely. The bacon will crisp up as it cools.
- Once cool, separate the strips.
Notes
- Use thick-cut bacon for the best texture.
- Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper based on your preference for heat.
- Do not let the sugar burn; watch the bacon during the final cooking stage.
