- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Combine the flour and salt in a bowl. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the ice water one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough just comes together. Form the dough into a disk, wrap it, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, toss the apple slices with granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon flour, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll the chilled dough into a rough 12-inch circle. Transfer the dough to the prepared baking sheet.
- Arrange the apple slices over the dough, leaving a 2-inch border around the edge.
- Fold the dough border up and over the edges of the apples, creating pleats as needed.
- Brush the folded crust with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
- Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Let the galette cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
- You can use any firm, tart apple variety for the best texture.
- For a richer flavor, substitute half of the granulated sugar with brown sugar.
