A simple recipe for classic baked beans suitable for serving at gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 (16 ounce) cans navy beans, rinsed and drained
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup water
- 4 slices bacon, cut into small pieces (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
- In a large bowl, combine the brown sugar, molasses, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth.
- Stir in the rinsed and drained navy beans and the water. Mix well to coat the beans.
- If using bacon, place the bacon pieces on top of the bean mixture in a baking dish.
- Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes, stirring halfway through the baking time.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a meatless version, omit the bacon.
- If the sauce seems too thick after baking, add a small amount of water or bean liquid until you reach your desired consistency.
