Description
A simple recipe combining Sloppy Joe filling with cheesy garlic bread for a quick, satisfying sandwich.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 slices Texas toast or thick-cut bread
- 4 tablespoons softened butter
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Cook ground beef and onion in a skillet over medium heat until beef is browned and onion is soft. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- While the meat simmers, prepare the garlic butter. Mix softened butter, minced garlic, and parsley in a small bowl.
- Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
- Place four slices of bread, butter-side down, on a baking sheet. Top each slice with half of the Sloppy Joe mixture.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the meat mixture.
- Top with the remaining four slices of bread, butter-side up.
- Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown.
- Cut each sandwich in half before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey for ground beef.
- For extra flavor, add 1/4 teaspoon of onion powder to the meat mixture.
- If you do not have Texas toast, use thick-cut sandwich bread.
