Description

A simple recipe combining Sloppy Joe filling with cheesy garlic bread for a quick, satisfying sandwich.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 slices Texas toast or thick-cut bread
  • 4 tablespoons softened butter
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook ground beef and onion in a skillet over medium heat until beef is browned and onion is soft. Drain excess fat.
  2. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. While the meat simmers, prepare the garlic butter. Mix softened butter, minced garlic, and parsley in a small bowl.
  4. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
  5. Place four slices of bread, butter-side down, on a baking sheet. Top each slice with half of the Sloppy Joe mixture.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the meat mixture.
  7. Top with the remaining four slices of bread, butter-side up.
  8. Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown.
  9. Cut each sandwich in half before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey for ground beef.
  • For extra flavor, add 1/4 teaspoon of onion powder to the meat mixture.
  • If you do not have Texas toast, use thick-cut sandwich bread.
