Description

A simple recipe for rich chocolate hazelnut mousse.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/4 cup hazelnut spread
  • 2 large eggs, separated
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Whip the heavy cream in a bowl until soft peaks form. Set aside.
  2. Melt the chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over simmering water, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat.
  3. Stir the hazelnut spread into the melted chocolate until fully combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks until pale. Gradually whisk the warm chocolate mixture into the yolks.
  5. In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add the granulated sugar and continue beating until stiff, glossy peaks form.
  6. Gently fold one-third of the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture to lighten it.
  7. Fold in the remaining whipped cream gently.
  8. Fold in the beaten egg whites in two additions, being careful not to deflate the mixture.
  9. Spoon the mousse into serving dishes.
  10. Chill for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

  • For a stronger hazelnut flavor, toast the hazelnuts before using them in any garnish.
  • You can substitute milk chocolate for bittersweet chocolate if you prefer a sweeter taste.
