Description
A recipe for honey wheat bread that mimics the popular Cheesecake Factory version.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups warm water (105-115°F)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 1/2 to 4 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted (for brushing)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Stir in honey, vegetable oil, and salt.
- Gradually add whole wheat flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, adding all-purpose flour as needed, until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down dough and divide into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a loaf and place in greased 9×5 inch loaf pans.
- Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and loaves sound hollow when tapped.
- Remove from pans and brush tops with melted butter immediately.
- Let cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
- For a softer crust, brush with melted butter immediately after baking.
- Ensure your yeast is fresh for proper rising.
