Description

A recipe for honey wheat bread that mimics the popular Cheesecake Factory version.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups warm water (105-115°F)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in honey, vegetable oil, and salt.
  3. Gradually add whole wheat flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, adding all-purpose flour as needed, until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down dough and divide into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a loaf and place in greased 9×5 inch loaf pans.
  7. Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and loaves sound hollow when tapped.
  10. Remove from pans and brush tops with melted butter immediately.
  11. Let cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
