Description
A recipe for a cheeseburger featuring deep-fried turkey bacon and standard burger components.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 4 slices bacon, cut into thirds
- 4 hamburger buns
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- Vegetable oil for deep frying
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Lettuce, tomato, onion, and condiments for topping
Instructions
- Mix ground turkey with salt and pepper. Form into four equal patties.
- Prepare the frying station: set up three shallow dishes with flour, beaten egg, and breadcrumbs, respectively.
- Dredge each piece of cut bacon first in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully fry the coated bacon pieces in batches until golden brown and crisp, about 2-3 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels. This is your turkey bacon.
- Cook the turkey patties to your preferred doneness, either on a grill or skillet.
- During the last minute of cooking the patties, place a slice of cheese on top of each patty and let it melt.
- Lightly toast the hamburger buns.
- Assemble the burgers: place a cheese-topped turkey patty on the bottom bun. Layer with the deep-fried turkey bacon pieces, lettuce, tomato, onion, and desired condiments. Top with the remaining bun half.
Notes
- You can substitute ground beef for ground turkey if you prefer.
- Drain the fried bacon well to prevent the burger from becoming greasy.
- Use a thermometer to monitor the oil temperature for best results when frying the bacon.
