  • 4 slices bacon, cut into thirds
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for deep frying
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Lettuce, tomato, onion, and condiments for topping

Instructions

  1. Mix ground turkey with salt and pepper. Form into four equal patties.
  2. Prepare the frying station: set up three shallow dishes with flour, beaten egg, and breadcrumbs, respectively.
  3. Dredge each piece of cut bacon first in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs.
  4. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Carefully fry the coated bacon pieces in batches until golden brown and crisp, about 2-3 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels. This is your turkey bacon.
  6. Cook the turkey patties to your preferred doneness, either on a grill or skillet.
  7. During the last minute of cooking the patties, place a slice of cheese on top of each patty and let it melt.
  8. Lightly toast the hamburger buns.
  9. Assemble the burgers: place a cheese-topped turkey patty on the bottom bun. Layer with the deep-fried turkey bacon pieces, lettuce, tomato, onion, and desired condiments. Top with the remaining bun half.

  • You can substitute ground beef for ground turkey if you prefer.
