Description

A simple recipe for making fresh marinara sauce for pasta.


Ingredients

  • 2 (28 ounce) cans crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion and cook until soft, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Pour in crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce.
  5. Stir in oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar.
  6. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
  7. Reduce heat to low, cover partially, and let it simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. Taste and adjust seasonings if needed before serving with pasta.

Notes

  • For a smoother sauce, you can use an immersion blender after simmering.
  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little heat.
