- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 hamburger buns
Instructions
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
- Add the chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat and cook for at least 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow flavors to meld.
- Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the hamburger buns.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
- You can toast the hamburger buns before serving for extra texture.
