Irresistible Smash Burger Recipe

Description

A simple recipe for a flavorful smash burger.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles

Instructions

  1. Divide ground beef into 4 equal portions.
  2. Season each portion generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Preheat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  4. Butter the cut sides of the hamburger buns and toast them on the skillet until golden brown. Remove from skillet.
  5. Place one beef portion onto the hot skillet. Immediately smash it down with a spatula to create a thin patty.
  6. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the edges are browned and crispy.
  7. Flip the patty and immediately place a slice of cheese on top. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted and the patty is cooked through.
  8. Repeat steps 5-7 for the remaining beef portions.
  9. Assemble the burgers by placing a patty on the bottom half of each bun, adding your desired toppings, and topping with the other half of the bun.

Notes

  • For best results, use 80/20 ground beef.
  • Do not overwork the ground beef when forming the patties.
  • Smash the patties quickly and firmly for a good sear.
