Description

A baked casserole made with cooked spaghetti, meat sauce, and cheese, forming a hearty and satisfying comfort food.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a 9-inch pie plate.
  2. Cook spaghetti according to package directions until al dente. Drain well.
  3. While spaghetti cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground meat and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  4. Add onion to the skillet and cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
  5. Stir in tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat.
  6. In a large bowl, combine the cooked spaghetti, eggs, and Parmesan cheese. Mix well.
  7. Press about two-thirds of the spaghetti mixture into the bottom and up the sides of the prepared pie plate to form a crust.
  8. Spread the ricotta cheese evenly over the spaghetti crust.
  9. Spoon the meat sauce over the ricotta layer.
  10. Top the sauce with the mozzarella cheese.
  11. Place the remaining one-third of the spaghetti mixture on top of the mozzarella layer.
  12. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are lightly browned.
  13. Let the pie rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey for ground beef for a lighter version.
  • For a richer flavor, use Italian sausage instead of plain ground beef.
  • If you prefer a crispier top, sprinkle a little extra Parmesan cheese over the top layer of spaghetti before baking.
