Description
A baked casserole made with cooked spaghetti, meat sauce, and cheese, forming a hearty and satisfying comfort food.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound spaghetti
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 24 ounces tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a 9-inch pie plate.
- Cook spaghetti according to package directions until al dente. Drain well.
- While spaghetti cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground meat and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add onion to the skillet and cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
- Stir in tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat.
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked spaghetti, eggs, and Parmesan cheese. Mix well.
- Press about two-thirds of the spaghetti mixture into the bottom and up the sides of the prepared pie plate to form a crust.
- Spread the ricotta cheese evenly over the spaghetti crust.
- Spoon the meat sauce over the ricotta layer.
- Top the sauce with the mozzarella cheese.
- Place the remaining one-third of the spaghetti mixture on top of the mozzarella layer.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are lightly browned.
- Let the pie rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey for ground beef for a lighter version.
- For a richer flavor, use Italian sausage instead of plain ground beef.
- If you prefer a crispier top, sprinkle a little extra Parmesan cheese over the top layer of spaghetti before baking.
