Description

Simple recipe for savory pastry pinwheels filled with spinach and feta cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 cup fresh spinach, chopped
  • 4 ounces feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, combine the chopped spinach and crumbled feta cheese.
  3. Unroll the thawed puff pastry sheet onto a lightly floured surface.
  4. Spread the spinach and feta mixture evenly over the entire surface of the pastry, leaving a small border on one long edge.
  5. Starting from the long edge opposite the border, tightly roll the pastry into a log.
  6. Brush the seam lightly with water to seal the roll.
  7. Using a sharp knife, cut the log into 12 equal slices, about 3/4 inch thick.
  8. Place the pinwheels cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between them.
  9. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk to create an egg wash.
  10. Brush the tops of the pinwheels with the egg wash.
  11. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
  12. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • You can add a pinch of black pepper to the filling for extra flavor.
  • If the pastry is too sticky to handle, chill it in the refrigerator for 10 minutes before rolling and cutting.
