  • 8 cups dried bread cubes
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups chopped celery
  • 2 cups chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoon dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 cups chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Place the dried bread cubes in a very large bowl.
  3. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add the celery and onion to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 8 to 10 minutes.
  5. Stir in the sage, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute more.
  6. Pour the vegetable mixture over the bread cubes. Toss gently to combine.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs and chicken broth.
  8. Pour the egg mixture over the bread mixture. Toss lightly until the bread is evenly moistened. Do not overmix.
  9. Transfer the stuffing mixture to the prepared baking dish.
  10. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is heated through.

Notes

  • For a crispier top, bake uncovered.
  • If you prefer a moister stuffing, add a little more broth during mixing.
