- 3 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 1/4 cups warm water
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt.
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and honey in the warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Pour the yeast mixture and olive oil into the flour mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan.
- Cover and let it rise again for 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
- Let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
- For a softer crust, brush the top with melted butter immediately after baking.
- You can add seeds like sunflower or pumpkin seeds to the dough for extra texture and flavor.
