  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together 1 cup sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add milk, melted butter, lemon juice, and lemon zest. Mix until combined.
  4. Pour batter into an ungreased 8×8 inch baking dish.
  5. Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup sugar evenly over the batter.
  6. Carefully pour boiling water over the sugar layer. Do not stir.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the sauce has formed underneath.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving.
