Description

A simple recipe for making fresh, tart lemonade at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 46 lemons)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 cups cold water
  • Ice cubes for serving

Instructions

  1. Combine the sugar and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar completely dissolves. Do not boil. This creates a simple syrup.
  2. Remove the simple syrup from the heat and let it cool for about 10 minutes.
  3. In a large pitcher, combine the cooled simple syrup, the fresh lemon juice, and the remaining 3 cups of cold water.
  4. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
  5. Taste the lemonade and adjust sweetness or tartness by adding a little more sugar syrup or water, if needed.
  6. Chill the lemonade in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  7. Serve over ice cubes.

Notes

  • For a stronger flavor, use slightly less water.
  • If you prefer a less sweet drink, reduce the sugar amount to 3/4 cup.
  • Garnish glasses with lemon slices or mint sprigs before serving.
