Description
A simple recipe for making fresh, tart lemonade at home.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4–6 lemons)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 cups cold water
- Ice cubes for serving
Instructions
- Combine the sugar and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar completely dissolves. Do not boil. This creates a simple syrup.
- Remove the simple syrup from the heat and let it cool for about 10 minutes.
- In a large pitcher, combine the cooled simple syrup, the fresh lemon juice, and the remaining 3 cups of cold water.
- Stir well to combine all ingredients.
- Taste the lemonade and adjust sweetness or tartness by adding a little more sugar syrup or water, if needed.
- Chill the lemonade in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.
- Serve over ice cubes.
Notes
- For a stronger flavor, use slightly less water.
- If you prefer a less sweet drink, reduce the sugar amount to 3/4 cup.
- Garnish glasses with lemon slices or mint sprigs before serving.
