Description
A sweet and slightly spooky caramel popcorn mix perfect for Halloween.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups popped popcorn
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup black food coloring gel
- 1/4 cup orange food coloring gel
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup, butter, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring. Let it boil for exactly 5 minutes.
- Remove the pan from the heat. Stir in the baking soda and vanilla extract quickly. The mixture will foam up.
- Pour the hot caramel over the popped popcorn in a very large bowl. Toss quickly to coat evenly.
- Divide the coated popcorn into two separate bowls.
- Add the black food coloring gel to one bowl and the orange food coloring gel to the other. Mix each bowl until the popcorn is evenly colored.
- Spread the black popcorn onto one prepared baking sheet and the orange popcorn onto the second baking sheet in a single layer.
- Bake for 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and stir the popcorn gently. Return to the oven for another 15 minutes.
- Let the popcorn cool completely on the sheets before breaking it apart.
Notes
- For extra creepiness, add plastic spiders or candy eyeballs after the popcorn cools.
- Store the cooled popcorn in an airtight container at room temperature.
